Tenant To Be Able To Leave Feedback On Letting Agents

The Government are planning to set up a new website which will allow tenants to post feedback or comments on their Letting Agents and the accommodation they are renting or have rented.
Work is also underway for a new National Landlords Register, to help raise standards of private rented accommodation further. For the first time it will give landlords and tenants easy access to clear advice and support. It will also be the way in which landlords and tenants can be kept informed of basic rights and responsibilities.
There have been mixed responses to the new legislation especially the feedback/rating website as worries are that malicious or inaccurate content might be added to the site and will need to be policed correctly to show a true and accurate reflection.
Meanwhile, the National Landlords’ Association has come out strongly against the proposed new measures, particularly making the point that a “trip adviser” style website would require such intensive management and scrutiny so as to make it unworkable.
The Government is also extending tenancy rights to people living in shared homes on short-term lets to give extra protection to around 150,000 people, including students and seasonal workers.
